What does bounding mean at Disney?

Disney bounding (or Disneybounding as some refer to it) is a way for Disney fans to use everyday clothes to mimic the look of Disney characters without violating park dress code.

The term was first coined by a Disney blogger named Leslie Kay who runs a site called DisneyBound. In fact, she has over 300,000 followers on her Instagram alone, where she regularly posts ideas and inspiration on how guests can dress like their favorite Disney characters at the parks.

Specifically, for the uninitiated, it is against park rules for adults over 14 years of age to dress in full costume or wear costume masks inside Disney theme parks like Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Of course, this rule is in place largely to avoid other guests inside the park mistaking visitors for park employees.

For example, let’s say you are an adult and you want to dress like Cinderella. Wearing a full Cinderella Halloween costume, wig and crown into the park would be against the rules. However, you could wear a cute blue and white sundress with a blue headband and a black choker.

And here’s the best part, Disney bounding is not only perfectly acceptable, but it has also become quite a popular trend in recent years.

In fact, it is not at all unusual to see hundreds of adult Disney bounders over the course of a single day at one of the parks.

So if you’re worried about feeling silly – don’t. Trust us, you’ll be in good company.

Now, without further ado, here’s a look at some of our favorite Disneybound outfits.

1. Winnie the Pooh

This is probably one of our favorite outfits on the list because of its simplicity. This look can be achieved by pairing a simple yellow skirt (which you could also reuse and bound as Snow White) with a red shirt, yellow sneakers and a matching headband.

Kristina, our model pictured above, is wearing yellow Mickey ears with a red bow, however, authentic Pooh Bear ear headbands can be purchased inside the park at EPCOT if you want to put the cherry on top of this outfit.

2. Princess Leia

Certainly, this is a great choice for Star Wars fans. In the photo above, Kristina poses for a photo in Galaxy’s Edge wearing a simple white dress paired with a Princess Leia belt and also white HeyDude loafers.

3. Darth Vader

Speaking of Star Wars characters, if you’re more of a dark side kind of girl, you could also easily put together a quick and easy Darth Vader look utilizing a simple pair of black leggings and a Vader tee.

It’s an easy look to put together because almost all of us probably already have a few pairs of black leggings lying around. In the picture above, Rachel models her best Darth Vader, complete with edgy Black lipstick.

4. Belle

We are, in fact, fans of bounding outfits that can serve a dual purpose. In the photo above, Kristina models a simple blue sundress that could easily (with a few tweaks) work for Belle, Elsa, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella or even The Little Mermaid’s live-action Ariel.

5. Gaston

Speaking of Disney bound outfits that could serve multiple purposes, this simple red T-shirt paired with black leggings (with a bit of tweaking) could easily be used for not only Gaston but also Mickey Mouse or a variety of Incredibles characters.

For Gaston, consider upgrading the look above with a button-up red polo, vest or collared dress and a belt.

6. Moana

Next up we have one of our favorite Disney princesses – Moana! In the photo above, Kristina pairs a salmon-colored top with a long beige wrap skirt and of course, Moana’s iconic Lapis-blue necklace. You may also want to consider upgrading the look with a red halter top and strappy hiking sandals (for comfort).

7. Rapunzel

Next, we have Rapunzel from “Tangled”. Admittedly, Rapunzel Disneybounding can be a bit tricky to put together because of her extra-long locks. But, as Kristina shows us in the above photo … it can be done.

We also suggest clip-in braids or hair extensions from Amazon. But do be warned, you may need multiple sets of extensions to pull off the voluminous look above.

8. Isabella

Finally, we have a modern-era Disney Character: “Encanto’s” Isabella. In the photo above, Kristina has fully committed to the role by adorning a simple lilac sundress with an assortment of fabric flowers.

We suggest if going this route, consider using a hot glue gun to semi-permanently attach the flowers to the dress. Sure, you’re permanently altering the dress, but that’s the price you pay for expert-level bounding.
