Genie+ is a service that can be added to your Disney park tickets.
Specifically, the service allows guests to skip the standby line on select attractions when visiting Disney parks.
Instead, guests can make reservations to access the Lightning Lane entrance on rides.

What is the point of Genie Plus?
Genie+ launched at the Walt Disney World Resort in October 2021. It was introduced a few months later at Disneyland. It was, in fact, designed to replace the old Fastpass+ system.
The old Fastpass system allowed ticket holders to make reservations at three selected attractions at a Disney park 30 days in advance or 60 days in advance for Disney resort hotel guests.
Once guests completed their three selections, the feature allowed them to make additional selections (one at a time) for the remainder of their day using the My Disney Experience app on a mobile device.
For this “rolling Fastpass+” system, return times were comparable to live wait times for rides. For example, if there was a 20-minute wait for Haunted Mansion, your return time would be in 20 minutes.
Unlike the previous Fastpass+ system, there is an added cost associated with Genie+. It’s a service you can purchase in addition to your park tickets.
Genie+ allows guests to make reservations using their mobile device beginning at 7 am on the morning of their park day.
With this in mind, if there’s a popular ride you’re trying to get a return time for, it’s best to make your selection right at 7 am. Once you hop in Lightning Lane for your first attraction, you can use the My Disney Experience app to make another selection.
Can you add Individual Lightning Lane to Genie+?
In addition to the rides included as part of the Disney Genie+ service, guests can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane reservation for the most popular ride at each park. Basically, Individual Lightning Lanes are a la carte options that are not included in the regular Genie+ service.
The cost of the Individual Lightning Lanes varies based on crowd levels, but it’s a good value if you’re willing to pay to skip the long queues.
Genie+ is still a pretty new service, and Disney has made some changes to the system since it first launched.
For example, the original cost was a $15 flat fee. You could add to your tickets when purchasing them. They have since transitioned to a variable pricing structure that depends on crowd levels.
On busier park days, the cost increases to around $20. Individual Lightning Lanes have a similar variable pricing structure.

Can you go to Disney without Genie?
Yes, you can go to Disney without it. But while it’s not necessary, the Disney Genie service can help you spend less time in the standby queue on your vacation.
Is it worth getting Disney Genie Plus?
Yes. Certainly, it can be worth it if you want to ride a lot of rides and minimize your time in line. You probably get the most bang for your buck at Magic Kingdom where there’s a long list of rides and attractions with Lightning Lanes.
On the other hand, if you’re planning a day with park-hopping or dining reservations, you might be better off skipping the Genie+ service.
Keep in mind that you can purchase Individual Lightning Lane reservations for each park’s most popular ride(s). Some of those wait times can be super long, so this can be a good strategy for saving time in queues as well.
