People wear all different types of clothing at Orlando, Florida theme parks. Personally, I am most comfortable wearing a combination of activewear and T-shirts in the Florida heat.

How do people dress for Disney?

Walt Disney World experiences variable climate conditions throughout the calendar year. The season and month of your visit will impact what you’ll be most comfortable wearing on your theme park days.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at what to wear year-round when visiting your favorite Disney park:

What to wear to Disney World in January

January is one of my favorite months for visiting Mickey. It’s also the coldest month in terms of average daily temperatures.

I often run the Disney Marathon, which is typically scheduled for the second Sunday because the weather is ideal for runners.

For example, it can be a bit chilly at night, but average daytime temperatures are in the 70s. Therefore, it’s a good idea to include a few cool-weather staples like sweaters or jeans on your winter packing lists.

However, you may also need a bathing suit and shorts. For best results, plan to dress in layers so you can adjust your wardrobe as the temperature changes throughout the day.

Orlando in February calls for layers and options. You’ll probably want to pack a lightweight jacket since the lows can be in the 50s.

Linen pants are a great option because they’ll keep you covered but not too hot. Also, they can be dressed up with a cute tank top or dressed down with a cotton T-shirt.

Be sure to keep a close eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to your March Disney trip. This is the time of year when you definitely want to pack plenty of refillable water bottles because it can start to get hot. And don’t forget the sunscreen, which is certainly recommended year-round.

For the most part, a good Disney T-shirt will serve you well.

That being said, it’s still a good idea to bring a light jacket for those chilly mornings or evenings. I also like to pack denim shorts because I can keep things in my pockets.

What to wear to Disney World in April

My family often visits in April because that’s when our spring break happens.

By this time of year, most folks are going to be comfortable in short sleeves and shorts. As the old adage proclaims, April showers bring May flowers. But actually, April is a relatively dry month compared to summer and early fall.

I think EPCOT is at its most beautiful in April with the Flower & Garden Festival in full swing. Most afternoons get warm enough for swimming. That being said, it’s possible for mornings and evenings to get quite cool in April. So it’s best to pack both long and short-sleeved options to optimize comfort.

What to wear to Disney World in May

It’s going to be warm in May, so be sure to pack your swimsuit and sunglasses! You can probably skip the sweaters, long pants and jackets this time of year. You’ll be more comfortable in shorts and T-shirts or tank tops.

Although rainfall doesn’t peak until summer, pack a light raincoat or umbrella, just in case.

What to wear to Disney World in June

I always recommend packing either ponchos, an umbrella or rain jackets on a Disney vacation. However, this is the month when the average rainfall peaks at over 8 inches, so in June, this tip is especially important.

High rainfall continues through the summer months and into September and October with the hurricane season. It’s hard to avoid rain during these months. So if you don’t come prepared, you will most likely end up purchasing a rain poncho.

Otherwise, plan for June to be hot with lows in the 70s and highs close to 90 degrees.

What to wear to Disney World in July

The high temperatures peak in July at Disney World. As a result, breathable fabrics that keep you cool are going to be your best friend in July. Think cotton shirts or tank tops and shorts.

Comfortable shoes are also a must. Even though it rains a lot, reserve your flip-flops for that quick walk to the pool. Your feet will thank you for wearing sneakers as often as possible.

What to wear to Disney World in August

August is hot, but with many kids going back to school this month, you may find that the parks are less crowded. This is also when Disney World breaks out its fall decorations.

This is a good time to try the iced Pumpkin Spice Coffee or Latte from Main Street Bakery, though. August’s average high is a sweltering 91 degrees with a low of about 75 degrees.

What to wear to Disney World in September

My school district has a fall break in late September, so we frequently visit during this month. The crowds are light, but the weather still feels like summer.

Swimming and water parks are on the itinerary in September. High temperatures are typically in the 80s with lows in the 70s. Wear cool clothing such as T-shirts and shorts.

There’s also a lot of rain in September with the hurricane season.

What to wear to Disney World in October

October can still be pretty hot in Orlando, although the overnight lows tend to dip into the 60s. So if you visit in October, it’s a good idea to pack a sweater or light jacket just in case.

If you opt for a rain jacket instead of a poncho or umbrella, it can double as a windbreaker in the event of unexpectedly cool weather.

What to wear to Disney World in November

Things begin to cool off a bit in November. Also, Disney World switches over from Halloween to Christmas decorations beginning on the first of November. So if you love fall wardrobe staples like jeans and sweaters, go ahead and pack them. You’ll be prepared to assume the holiday spirit.

That being said, the weather can still be quite mild in November, so don’t forget to throw in a pair of shorts for the warmer days.

What to wear to Disney World in December

December is the driest month in Orlando with the lowest average rainfall. It’s a good idea to bring clothing that will keep you warm.

Although average low temperatures are in the 50s, it can get considerably chillier than that.

So it’s a good idea to pack a few winter accessories like a hat, scarf and gloves just in case. Better to have them and not need them than the other way around.

What about Disney bounding?

Some Disney fans plan special Disney World outfits inspired by favorite characters or attractions. It’s called Disney bounding.

You can keep it simple with a yellow tennis skirt paired with a blue workout top inspired by Snow White.

Similarly, any clothing item with red and white polka dots will make a great tribute to Minnie Mouse. Alternatively, you can go all out with special accessories to complete your look.

Is it practical to wear a dress to Disney World?

I like to pack a few activewear-style tennis dresses on my Disney World vacation. Some of them have shorts with pockets sewn into them. I suppose the pockets are for tennis balls, but they will also accommodate a phone.

Plus, the stretchy fabric moves with me and dries quickly in the event of a sudden downpour.

The sewn-in shorts also make it less awkward to mount certain ride vehicles. For example, both Avatar: Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom and TRON: Lightcycle at Magic Kingdom require rides to straddle a seat similar to riding a horse or bicycle.

Keep in mind that a longer skirt or a short one without shorts might make this a bit tricky.
